I'd say a certain universal feature would go a long way to solving that:
Rather than a switch, having a large, easy to feel momentary button, with a timer circuit. Feel, press the button, and one gets an active dot for 2 mins... Then auto off.
Someone with the skills like our friend Bojan could do it in their sleep I'm sure. I'd be pleased to see this appear in mid range red dots and up.
