No I haven't gone camping with the scope nor do I know the boxes to which you refer but my ill-informed opinion is not to trust them completely. I would use some secondary protection; probably some heavy plastic bags. If water gets in around the seal you don't want the gear lying in a puddle. I'd also consider whether you might get condensation in the box. Then check the gear regularly. Happy camping.
