You could try PlanetarySystemStacker - https://github.com/Rolf-Hempel/PlanetarySystemStacker for processing. Look over in Cloudy Nights - there are some good threads for this.

PixInsight does most of the processing I need - at least for deepsky.

So far I installed CdC (it requires internet access for additional files).

There is also Ubuntu Astronomy package (haven't tried, but will soon, bootable (by Rufus) from USB stick).

Does everything required including star finding , imaging, sequencing filters and controlling PHD for dithering . Also used on the raspberry clone. There must be some image editing software on the Indi / kstars user forums.
AStro pixel processor is good but have not tried it on Ubuntu yet.
thanks so much for all the replies and suggestions that has given me plenty to work with. had quite a few issues getting PixInsight up and running but appears to be working. Also interesting on the capture side of things I hadn't really heard of capture options so that is handy too if(when) i decide to wipe windows from the lappy.
