Depends if you have experience with any of the major DAWs too and what your preference is. Just having a quick look at Amazon you're probably looking at $225 - $275 for a decent 2 in 2 out USB interface (something like Presonus or Focusrite Scarlet).
I've played with a few DAWs and find Reaper pretty amazing bang for buck. Only an amateur hack keyboard player with a midi keyboard and Roland Digital Piano plugged in, but with a decent interface so many effects and instruments you can do in software.
