I don't think there needs to be any justification. You could ask 'why' of just about any hobby. At the end of the day none of them serve any useful purpose and are only there to keep us entertained.
As cool as it is, I note not much thought seems to have been given to safety. I probably would not have set up right in front of it. I couldn't get a proper look at what's restraining it, but they obviously have a lot of confidence it is 100% fail safe.
