What are you wanting to photograph and what ‘work’ are you wanting the app to do?

You basically just need your phone and the adapter (get a good one that clamps around the side of the eyepiece body). There are apps that can control your camera settings and give you full manual control of ISO, shutter and aperture. Many are free.

If you want to photograph deep sky objects then that is a different story but my son ‘snapped’ a shot of the Orion Nebula showing colour with an iPhone 11 through my 26mm Nagler and Lightbridge 16”. I wouldn’t have thought this possible and yet the image was quite good for an afocal short exposure handheld shot of a DSO without tracking.
