A lovely mild cloudless evening in Melbourne last night, apart from the raging jetstream and some blustery winds. After much planning and trialing different cameras, locations, settings and simulating in SkySafari and Stellarium, I thought I was ready. I went with my ASI224MC which needed to be precisely rotated in order to get the planets and moons in the frame. Fortunately all of Jupiter's moons were on the same side, so that helped a lot with the framing.

I started imaging at about 9PM (20 minutes after sunset) when I still couldn't see Jupiter in the sky, with Jupiter sitting at around 18 degrees elevation. I used the C9.25" SCT on my Evolution mount, Meade f/6.3 reducer and ASI224MC, captured for 3 minutes at gain 105 and shutter speed 10ms. Stabilized in PIPP, best 10000 frames stacked in AS!3, sharpened in Registax and post processing in PhotoShop Elements.

This image shows Jupiter's moons brightened a little, with Saturn still quite dark in comparison.
