Hi Leon,
a note for you and everyone else.

Don't ever open a DVD or CD player up with the power on.
The infrared laser is easily powerful enough to damage your eyes.
Not only that - you can't see infrared so you won't even know
that it could be shining into & damaging your eyes.
People who service them live - use special anti-infra red goggles.


With the power off you could clean the laser with
a cotton wool bud & alcohol.
Sometimes it can be just a wad of dust that has built up over the laser.


The most likely cause of failure is a scratch on the CD or DVD
that you've inserted into the machine.
