Us humble Aircraft Engineers were on pay level 5 ... apparently we aren't smart enough for pay level 6 .

Good one Hans
I never regarded myself as an Avionics Technician because I was trained as an Instrument Fitter. Avionics Technician was a reclassification that came in mid 90's .. there was no formal up skill training for us old school fitters. When I got posted to 481SQN Williamtown as an Avionics Technician I was told I could only work in Flight Controls and Oxygen Workshop. I had hoped to work in COMMS, FLIR or RADAR but they said no because I was originally trained as an Instrument Fitter.

As an Instrument Fitter I was on Pay Level 5 but I believe RADTECH's were on Pay Level 6 because they were 'Technicians'.
