On top of everything else mentioned, make sure the two stars you choose for your alignment stars aren't more than about 60° apart in azimuth. I'd been using Arcturus and Rigel Kentaurus recently, and the alignment and subsequent go-to/tracking was pretty ordinary. Last night I used Arcturus and Antares (which are about 68° apart), and the go-to and tracking was excellent. The Skywatcher documentation has a recommended min-max altitude and azimuth distance separation for your alignment stars - at the moment, Arcturus and Alpha Crucis are virtually on opposite sides of the sky, which probably isn't helping your efforts.
