Sorry Andy and forgot to mention that yes, you really are best off installing Homebrew and doing some minor tinkering but it's generally pretty "follow the script" and you're ok. Did you wind up resolving your problems?
Strongly recommend running the actual control for your obsy on an RPi - that way if there is a reboot required, you're just rebooting the remote device.
I've just realised that's hardly a ringing endorsement...
