This picture is no work of art, but it is another step forward for me in my astronomy/astro photography journey.



I was ( unsuccessfully) pottering about trying to find new nebulae to photograph when I saw a bright star through the trees. I took a snap of it, and I discovered that even without eyepiece magnification ( saxon 900mm refractor with a camera directly on the end) you can see the moons!



You may note that I had to do this through trees, but as restrictions ease I will be traveling out to somewhere where I can get more sky to work with, sans trees and power lines.



I threw the viewing hardware back on and put a 6mm plossl in and could see Jupiter enough to see that there was banding ... well, a hint of it. Maybe not a big moment for many who are experienced, but to see a planet (and moons) with that much detail excited this noobie!
