Asteroid 1998 OR2 – a big, bold, brassy bright rock! Brisbane 29th April 2020

With the prospect of the blazingly bright Asteroid 1998 OR2 (mag 10.9) passing overhead relative to our back garden in Brisbane, I decided to set up regardless of the increasing bands of wispy thin clouds passing through, just as the forecast had predicted.

I got lucky and only lost a few subs due to cloud, the broken trail showing those quite clearly.

AT its closest approach, this Amor class (NEO) 1-4 km sized chunk of rock would be passing some 16.4 Lunar Distances from my back garden in Brisbane.

I took 30 sec exposures and managed to collect over 120 frames before the clouds shut me down completely.

The FOV is approx. 28x22 arc mins.

Cheers
