From memory you shouldn't need to worry about it with the canon. Your screen dump is very similar to how mine looks. The program should find it automatically. I went through the same process when I first had DSLR Focus, not being able to carry out the proceedure outlined in the manual. it was very frustrating.

Check out the images below.
Image 1 is my sreen when no canon is attached after clicking Application>connect
Image 2 is after I click "cancel" from here you can track down the required files if you really want.
Image 3 is if I select "monitor files in folder" (useing the drop down arrow beside "None" in image 2)
Image 4 is the screen I get if I select Application>connect when the Canon 300D is attached and turned on
Image 5 is the sreen I get once connected.

In the end at no time did I have to go searching for remote capture file or any sort of control files. The program did that automatically after I selected the 300D
