You probably need to look at ED scopes in order to get a decent focuser, not to mention better optics.
Any 4" f/7 or smaller ED doublet or triplet that turns up in the classifieds should be ok to start with.

With a reducer/flattener on the 4" f/7 scope you're at 560mm focal length; anything under 600mm is easier for beginners to learn with.
