I tried it for a short time with colour slide film and a Canon AE1.
I used to take the film to the local chemist and monitor him processing the film so the results were not too dark.
At home I would stack the slides together before displaying them on my projector. Only ever did M42, Eta Carina and Omega Centaurus in 10 sec subs.
This was using my 12.5" f5.6 telescope on the horseshoe tracking mount (my avatar).
