10 years use of el-cheapo timers, no problems... (except when very cold, then on one of them display becomes lazy).
New batteries are essential, cleaning contacts etc.
Also, with these things sometimes rubber contacts on buttons need cleaning, but this is something that cam happen to TV remote as well.
