I've used Australia Post for 15 to 20 years in my business. I probably send a few hundred articles per year. Most articles are despatched via registered mail. Of the latter I have (well, they did) lost one and was compensated for the loss. It was indeed inconvenient for both myself and the recipient, but it's not a bad track record as far as I am concerned.
Unregistered mail is a different matter, though still not all that bad. I once went to the P.O. with only enough cash in hand to send the three, smallish, items I was sending via normal mail. All three (according to the addressees) failed to arrive. Now everything is sent registered, regardless of its value. I cannot afford to have customers claiming non-receipt of goods. Registered mail overcomes this problem.
