Realised belatedly that DSS 2009 version (I can't use current version because Microsoft no longer supports Windows 8 and therefore vital dll won't load) was only converting part of the RAW images and M83 wasn't there at all. Having laboriously converted all the RAW files into TIFF, was then able to stack and get something to play with in Photoshop Essentials.
Will put result up after reducing to thumbnail.
