As I said elsewhere, it's just more junk. I don't buy Musk's suggestion that they won't be seen by astronomers. You only have to look at the deployment photo to see they reflect earthshine. While a casual glance may not spot them, the human eye is not capable of long exposures and gathering faint light the way a camera sensor can. They will appear on long subexposures due to their reflectivity. They block the sky behind them as well. It's hard enough to shoot subs now without having trails of various floaters showing up. Another example of Musk's poor judgement imho.
