Give me Liberty!

Beginning of a new project, revisiting this popular gem of the Southern skies in Carina, imaged this time with the 10" f4 CF Newt in Ha.

Sometimes known as "the Statue of Liberty" nebula, NGC 3576 resides in the star forming region called RCW 57.

This image showcases dense knots of dark interstellar dust, bright stars that have formed in the past few million years, fields of glowing hydrogen gas ionized by these stars, and great loops of gas expelled by dying stars.

3hrs x 3nm Ha taken under a full moon from my backyard in Melbourne.
(Full colour NB to follow if the skies remain clear!)

PS: Starless version also attached for S&G, it's interesting to view the various structures without the stars.
