I use Backyard EOS capture software for my Canon 600D and it gives you the sensor temperature read out in Celsius for each exposure
During this last summer ( Dec to Feb ) my Canon was running between 32 to 38degC which is extremely high and the major cause of noise in my images that’s why I tried dithering which improved my SNR considerably
At the moment it’s running at 25degC and in winter usually gets down to 18 to 22degC which is fine
BYEOS is great capture software and only cost me $70 plus a 5m USB cable $15 and I was up and running
If your Canon 50D Was manufactured before 2006 it may not connect to BYEOS, I think there is a trial version as well to try out
Cheers
