Perhaps a dog's poo magnetic alignment is disturbed by its owners observation, (ie the Observer Effect). Left to their own devices dogs may default to their magnetic compass. There is a whole new line of enquiry here. How do you observe the dog's alignment without being present? The author of the article does not explain how magnetic alignment was determined. A great PHD thesis awaits some aspiring candidate.
