I believe matter would be converted in the process of transitioning from black hole to white. You not going to see a Big Mac get sucked in and then fired out the white hole in the future. However, the atomic level elements could make the transition. The reason the we don't see white holes flinging stuff around is that they exist in a future we cannot see.
