I am not sure what you mean.
When I used PHD or PHD2 (I use MaxIM exclusively now for guiding), I would loop to see the target, select one, press start and away it went doing it's calibration etc (I always set the Brain to recalibrate always). I have never used Auto-select star, always selecting my own.
