I went scuba diving just off there (there is a healthy reef system). And while it didn't do anything like that when I was there, it did send up clouds of ash every few minutes, sometimes accompanied with huge pyroclastic boulders lofted into the sky. You could hear the rumbling of the eruptions transmitted through the water when you were under.
It was an amazing experience. Still, I wished I'd seen something like that. Seeing real lava is one of my bucketlist items.
