recording star test

Hi,

I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to imaging, so I wonder if anyone could offer advice on equipment needed to record a short video of star testing?

My scope is a 180mm Mak, f/l 2700mm at f15. I've dismantled a Jaycar webcam and used a 1.25" adapter to image the moon and planets at prime focus, but have had no luck with this when it comes to individual stars/star testing. I've also tried this webcam sensor through a 15mm eyepiece, and while I could see Mars I couldn't find anything else. I'm using SharpCap 3.2.

What is the minimum setup in terms of resolution I need in order to record a star test? I would like to do it at different magnifications, so would eyepiece projection be the way to go?

Thanks
Stephen
