Ric,
I have AIP4Win v2 and well it is ok for what it is intended for, but might not be of any lasting benefit. The book is very very deep and will load the reader with gobs more info that most would ever use or digest. But that is not to say it has no value. The S/W is meant more for demonstration of various processing routines rather than being user friendly. Many of the tools will not work with RGB colour so you need to be prepared to work with individual colour channels and recombine later. There seems to be a serious memory usage problem with the S/W in that I have found that I can run a process on a small file ok, but am garanteed a 'program not responding' result with larger files.
Astroart 3 is good.
CCDstack is a program that I have heard rivals MaxIm, though I have not tried it You can get a 30 day trial period for that as well.
Some others that you might want to look at are; PixInsight and Iris.
Depending on your imager, you might also want to look at Images Plus.
cheers,
Doug
