Looks like a pretty decent effort from Nikon given Sony has a 5 year head start and on their 3rd models and working on their 4th.

For astro I think the main advantages at this stage seem to be the built in time lapse and intervalometer.

The Sony A73 is probably the best astro cam out there at the moment with clear reports that the star eater issue has finally been resolved.
It is super low noise.

The Z6 may be much the same being the same sensor. But I did read that one sample image showed some stripes in the shadows (those on sensor autofocus points have a metal mask that can show up in certain unusual images).

I think the best choice would be Nikon if you had lots of Nikon lenses (they are adaptable on a Sony but a smart adapter is still early in its performance tweaking).

Otherwise Sony has probably too much of a head start.

Main criticisms of the Z6 seem to be the smaller poorer battery life and the single slot memory card (expensive XQD cards that are fast more durable but quite expensive).

A single slot wouldn't be an issue for nightscape shots but the weaker battery may be a slight pain. Like where Sony was about a year ago but they fixed it with the latest excellent battery.
