Outreach @ Mount Stromlo Observatory

Another successful public astronomy evening at Mount Stromlo Observatory last night

We had over 1500 people attending the Australian National University's Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics Public Night last night...

With talks from noted RSAA astronomers and cosmologists indoors and telescope views provided by the Canberra Astronomical Society outside, it was a very busy evening.

Scopes that were available for the visitors to look through ranged from my little TSA102S to a 20" F5 Dobsonian.

The early cloud disappeared by the nominated start time and the conditions continued to improve to the point that the 4" scope was showing cloud bands on Saturn's globe, several bands on Jupiter, some detail on Mars....

It is very satisfying to partake in these events when you hear the young kids excited 'WOW"s ..... reminds me of me in the 1960 looking at the Aurora Bor. every winter.....
