G'day Martin, the first time I tried to setup s/scope I had similar results to what you are having, the second time everything just worked, this info is of no value to you in your current situation of course
, its just to assure you that s/scope/stellarium does work

Which documentation are you using to setup scope?
The doc I used is called "Stellarium Scope Users Guide" its 17 pages and has everything you need to know about installation. it would be hard to setup without this doc.
Hope this is not stating the obvious, ...I've found when setting up imaging equipment its alway the little things overlooked that cause you the most grief.
