There's probably a couple of things going on to create that effect Lewis. Atmospherics are pretty bad here at the moment. Stars are not as tack sharp as with warmer weather for some reason. Wouldn't be able to do planetary at the moment. And the mid-tone only stretch has a soft appearance to it. I also haven't used any sharpening. Best thing to do is zoom back until it looks better.

We are having a cold snap here in north QLD Jon. Winter = mostly clear. But we are in for an easterly change with cloud and showers. The Moon will put a stop to things for a while too.
