Old Celestron NexStar 8i (Silver Tube)

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a Celestron 8i SCT. It is in very good condition for an oldie.

I already have a Skywatcher Mak Cass 180 Pro, but the price on the Celestron was too good to pass up.

Had a play last night, and was pretty happy with optics... though I cant say I love the AltAz mount (just prefer my EQ5 Pro).

Unfortunately these dont have a dovetail bar mount, but are fixed to the mount.

It is sooo much lighter than the Mak Cass, so I was wondering if anyone had removed these from the Celestron Mount and via tube rings or a fixed vixen style dovetail, re-mounted these on an EQ mount?

The Mak Cass is a nice scope, but a bit limiting at F15, the 8i could be bit more of an all-rounder.

Also... I have a WO66ED, and as the 8i is so light, do you think an HEQ5 Pro would support the 8i/66ED piggy backed, as this would allow either to be a tracking scope.

Cheers,

Bushy
