I'd personally make a small plywood tray come out of the wall or hook attachable/detachable to the wall. Easy as pi.

I set everything up last night with guiding running and the lap top in place and your idea may be the way to go...I have an idea for a box that swings into place but stays upright but the benefit of that approach is the lid to the box will fit into place as the main lid closes such that the lap top will be safe from a unexpected leak or some animal ..mice lizards whatever.
