Many times, having both worked there , and visited my daughter and her family who lived there for many years. They have a very large tidal range,
and when the tide is a long way out, and the moon fairly low in the sky, it
looks like a ladder when the light reflects off of the shallow water in
between the ripples in the sand[which are exposed]. The ripples run parallel to the shoreline, so the reflection of the moon on the water
has many little gaps in it like the steps of a ladder.
