NGC 2440 is one of the hottest white dwarfs 219000K surf temp and does have a faint halo around the whole object. There is an inner torus and multi polar components difficult to pick out shown in the attachment.

I think we should have an object renaming program, but it's history I suppose. With CCD's it's not like looking through a telescope at a hazy blob with averted vision - we get the full detail.
