Thanks everyone, that's given me some great ideas to get me started.
I went down to Bunnings and priced some plywood... Crikey! This may not be the cheap project I'd planned on. MDF is more reasonable priced, but probably not a good choice for use outdoors in the damp.
I'll let you know what I end up with... cheers!
