New Years Eve 2018, Canberra. Set up on Lake Burley Griffin to watch the fireworks. Fireworks start, and my attention was not on the fireworks but a blue "orb" on the horizon, neatly between Mt. Ainslie and Black Mountain from my position. Blue light - with NO nav/position lights moves south towards Canberra - slowly. Then moves north. Then moves west, then east then east again and just vanished.

I was not the only one to see it - someone here who shall remain nameless (unless they wish to come forward) also saw it from a higher vantage point.

Now, it COULD have been military helicopter traffic, or something like that. COULD have.

Interesting that all 3 respondents so far in this thread have DIRECT aviation backgrounds too, so we know nav lights, usual traffic etc.
