For the price of the Lodestar you could buy an MGEN II stand alone Autoguider which is easy to use and very effective. At the time of ordering you can get a couple of accessories to go with the handset and camera:
1. an adapter to mount the camera on a standard 8x50 or 9x50 finderscope (note there are 2 different adapters)
2. A shutter cable for your DSLR which allows the MGEN hand control to program a series of exposures.
As a raw beginner I got this setup guiding on my first night out.
