The map image captures all touch events in defined block areas (top left and right, middle) so the device's default gestures are overridden (zooming, pinching, rotating, dragging, etc...). No plans to have zooming at this stage. Zooming will work if your fingers are anywhere outside of the map so on the tablet with a larger display you could. But not on a smaller screen display.
