Two colleagues told me it was "great and really takes the Alien saga in a good direction". Needless to say, my estimation of them has fallen considerably.

I was quite disappointed: so much potential; so little realised.

Blood and gore is fine if necessary to tell the story (the chest-burster in the original Alien was done extremely well - an iconic moment in cinema) but the horror parts in this one were mechanical, emotionless, overplayed ... and boring. And I don't mean it needed "more gore" to make it watchable. If anything, it needed less given the story's context.

And I firmly agree with Lewis: So. Many. Plot. Holes.

Sigh. When will Hollywood get back to making sci-fi for people with a reading age over 8 and an attention span longer than 20 minutes?
