The Needle Galaxy NGC4565

NGC4565 (also known as the Needle Galaxy or Caldwell 38) is an edge-on spiral galaxy about 30 to 50 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices.

Maximum elevation from my location is about 42 degrees, so I have been picking at it each night on top of the arc for about a week. Edge to edge it's quite a large object in the 10" F4. I haven't imaged this galaxy before, but I think it's kind of cute. Looks like a UFO!

GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, 867 x 30 second unguided subs (poor camera) or about 7.2 hours, full spectrum modified Canon 1100D, Baader MPCC MKIII, Baader UV / IR cut filter or Semi APO filter for some stacks. Stacked in 7 groups in DSS, processed in photoshop.

Oh, and I left it on an angle just for Ron.
