I used to watch Ch (between 8-10) over their main commercial rival. There was a real qualitative difference. There was actually news on it.

But in the past year that has switched around to the point that my once preferred news service is even worse that its rival. Someone introduced a new business plan or something - sell adverts as news. Commercials dressed up as news seems to account for a third of the news on that channel now. The rest is "man bites dog" stuff blended with ëxclusive breaking news on how pensioners can avoid getting ripped off on their ????? (add your own here), the best suburbs for buying a house, anything that an advertiser would pay for. There is no news worth a darn any more.

The whole world is going to hell in a handbasket and the best our news services can do is which footballer was called a bad name, which star has bigger implants and matters of similar earth-shattering importance.

The one-upon-a-national broadcasting service now leans so far to the feminist left it is a joke, the once-independent-ethnic broadcaster now has as many commercials as the rest.

I now watch about 30 minutes at most a day. For the rest, my TV sits unused entirely.
