The Omega (Swan) Nebula, Messier 17, NGC 6618

I recorded the data for these images of the Omega Nebula back in July to September 2016. Part of my strategy is to record as much high quality data as possible during the dry winter months, and then catch up on the processing during the cloudy summer months.

Some of you will not like the strong rich colour of these portraits. I am sorry for that, but hopefully a few of you will share my sense of the aesthetic. I guess we will have to agree to disagree, respectfully.

Technical details: Televue Nagler Petzval 127is at f/4.2, Astronomik 12-nm SII, Ha and OIII filters, QSI683wsg camera cooled to -20 Celsius. All sub-frames at 1x1 binning.

Exposure times for the sub-frames: H alpha: 24 x 20 minutes, OIII: 28 x 30 minutes, SII: 12 x 40 minutes.
