Bigger than it should be....

Hi Jennifer,

Many thanks for the excellent photo and Happy New Year!

As the aperture is 80mm, the circle should not be greater than 80mm.

That means 6 inches away from eyepiece with the flashlight but the objective lens being close to the wall, so there's no enlargement from the projection of the image.

The reason is my 80mm Gerber De Luxe binos from Japan (I think circa 1970-80s?) is stopped down from 80mm to 70mm to reduce chromatic and spherical abberations.

I am keen to learn whether the Saxon 80mm binos made now are also stopped down?
