I have stayed at the Charter Towers caravan park (next to the golf course), numerous times during the winter months, and it was usually clear. Winter is the dry season up that way. I had my binos with me and would say the seeing was pretty good once the night came, it can be cool there at night, but not much humidity compared to the coast. Charter Towers is a reasonable sized town, so there us some skyglow. Tread carefully if looking for a spot to setup outside town, there are old gold mine shafts all over the area.
