I think it is probably more that 253 has been imaged perhaps more than any other galaxy in the sky, so we can all compare to something in our memory very easily and we have all seen lots of poor or average and a few good versions, with only a sprinkling of really great ones, ie the whole range. On the contrary, smaller more distant galaxies and thus usually much less imaged, aren't in our minds eye anywhere near as much and certainly few if any really good versions can be easily recolected, so in effect we have less to be familiar with so don't notice the level of resolution as much. I think this is why so few versions of 253 capture the imagination ...and why I like to compare to Hubble shots sometimes, to see what level of detail has been captured and what some of the features actually are...did that make any sense..?
