This is a great example of why voting should be compulsory there, as it is here. At least it would force people to make a choice. As it is at present, the winner just has to be better at mobilising the support base regardless of the platform.

Running an election on a Tuesday doesn't make it very easy for people to vote. If you have to commute to work, get kids to school ettc etc, voting on. Tuesday would have a low priority for many people.
