Actually the part of the country where the picture is taken is quite
a way from Lake Eyre - probably around a 650km walk.

The Burke and Georgina Rivers converge south of the remote outback
town of Bouila in Queensland, around 350km north of Birdsville.

I've flown into Birdsville a couple of times and the Channel Country
from 7000' is spectacular, but definitely not a place you would want
to have an engine failure. It looks like the surface of another world.
A vast and intimidating place, without communications, they would
have a hard time spotting you in an aerial search.
