I've been ignored in telescope shops, told I'm just a "groupie" when attending serious conferences, told my work is only published because I'm female (well, sometimes, being featured in an article on women in amateur astronomy was done because I'm female)
I don't think us wandering around the field just wearing paint and pasties would give us the sort of recognition we're looking for.
Especially given that I'm in my mid 50's and old enough to be a granny.
